Describe your career journey and your current role.

After completing BSc Physics Hons (1985-86) from Ranchi College, I qualified as a dental surgeon from GDC, Madras followed by a research degree in health systems management from BITS, Pilani and a masters in international health policy from London School of Economics (LSE). A fellow of Royal Society for Public Health, I have worked in various capacity including in ADB in Manila and as Principal Lecturer in higher education institution in the United Kingdom. I founded " Scientific European”, the European popular science magazine in 2018 and is working as editor since then. A native of East Champaran district in Bihar, I am a naturalised British citizen and normally live and work in the UK for over two decades.

What are some of your key achievements in your career journey?

Attending and working in institutions like London School of Economics and Asian Development Bank were significantly enriching phases of my career. Founding “Scientific European”, the European popular science magazine geared to disseminate advances in science to scientifically minded general readers worldwide in all languages was a very proud moment because this is a novel open access digital platform that empowers non-English speaking learners to appreciate new ideas in science in their mother-lounges.

Describe your DSPMU or previously known as Ranchi College, Ranchi journey.

I joined Ranchi College as a teenager in 1981 in I.Sc. programme when Prof. P.R. Sharan was the principal. It was a carefree life loitering around central library building, Morhabadi ground and nearby Sainik theatre. Completed BSc Pass and honours degrees with decent marks under highly skilled and kind teachers of Ranchi College. I do vividly remember likes of Prof B.N. Sahu, Prof R.N. Upadhya, Prof Ghatwari, Prof Akhauri, Prof Ashok Kumar. Would truly love to meet if they are still around.

A message or a success mantra that you would like to give to your current DSPMian.

Past is for evaluation and planning future goals. Magic of life is in “this” moment. No matter what, “this” moment will pass to become history. Therefore, you must live the present happily with empathy for others and work tirelessly towards achieving your big dream. Sooner or later, all the forces of the nature will ensure you become whatever you think and act to be.
